The Rupert Neve Designs 5051 is a channel strip featuring a three-band inductor EQ and a fully equipped VCA compressor, specifically developed for use with the 5088 console. With a fully discrete class-A signal path and custom audio transformers, the 5051 delivers the warm, musical character that is characteristic of Rupert Neve's classic designs.
The inductor EQ draws from the best elements of Neve's vintage EQ designs. The low-frequency section provides a full, resonant bass response with switchable shelf or peak filter mode, while the mid-band is based on the famous 1073 circuit topology; it is ideal for bringing vocals and instruments forward in the mix. The high-frequency section combines inductor and capacitor topologies for vintage tone with modern control. A switchable high-pass filter at 60 Hz or 120 Hz (18 dB/octave) completes the EQ section.
The VCA compressor offers precise dynamic control with minimal coloration of the signal, thanks to a low-noise, low-distortion VCA without pronounced character. The feed-forward/feed-back switch and Peak/RMS detection mode give the engineer complete control over the dynamic behavior; from the classic, musical response of early Neve designs to fast, technically accurate dynamic control.
The 5051 is not a clone, but a contemporary design with modern components and techniques, fully in the spirit of Rupert Neve's philosophy of musicality-first engineering.
